How to Download and Watch Hindi Movies Online For Free – 4 Simple Steps!

I was recently asked by a reader about how she could download and watch Hindi movies for free, through the internet. She had some friends who often downloaded the latest Hindi movies two or three weeks after their release and talk about them all day. Now she wasn’t as tech savvy so she had no clue.

The prospect of watching a Bollywood movie for free did seem enticing, as compared to renting or buying a DVD. I decided, why not write up a short tutorial on how you can download the latest Bollywood movies, that too for free. Now, I am not sure if this act will come under piracy in India but who cares! (We’re living in a country where the leaders scam the public for hundreds and thousands of crores throughout the year. I am pretty sure downloading a simple movie is not a major crime.) I personally feel that we can stretch our moral ambit to accommodate a little bit of crime, from time to time. 

4 simple steps to Downloading a Movie on the internet

1. Get a ‘Torrent’ client

In layman terms, this can be considered to be the downloading application. These applications can download .torrent files. In case you’re wondering what a torrent actually is, read this. The best ones come for free so first download a torrent client. My favorite is Bittorrent because it’s really simple to use!

2. Search for the movie you want to download

The next logical step would be to search for the movie that you want to download. Ideally, you should download a movie after two or three months of its release because by then, most producers release the DVDs of their movies. Consequently, people upload high quality versions on the internet which can be downloaded as and when you want. Where do you search? My favourite place for this is Torrentz. It’s like a Google for torrent files.

3. Choose which Torrent you want to download the movie from

Go for one which has been downloaded and seeded by the maximum number of people (usually known as ‘peers’)  since this file can be downloaded with the best speed possible. Look at the attached screen shots for a better explanation.

4. Select and Download the Torrent file

There will be several files on the search page. Choose any file (my favourite is thepiratebay.org). The next page will take you to another page where you will notice a link for downloading the ‘.torrent’ file. This step is a little confusing if you have never downloaded a torrent file before because there are lots of ‘direct’ downloadlinks which promise blazing download speeds. Don’t click on any of them. Download the torrent file and your torrent client will open. Save the torrent and let the file download. The time required depends on your connection speed (a 700 MB file will be downloaded in about 8 hours over a 256 Kbps connection).
